Trip Reports - Weenen NP KZN Outing - January 2021

After meeting at Villiers at 06h00 and having breakfast at (you know where), we proceeded to Harrismith to go up and down the steep Donkie Pass where we had to cut down a tree blocking the track.

At the top of Platberg there is a wetland (spring water) at 2400m altitude with a beautiful view.

At Weenen NP KZN we had a good camp site with rain at night. On Saturday we tried to find Stoney Ridge 10km away with no success but had a great lunch by the Buffalo River.

It is sometimes great to get lost! On our return the three vehicles with us four made our way up a voortrekker track - Bezuidenhout Pass.

Having made contact at Kwaggahoek lodge. Daar is baie modder na die reen (there is plenty of mud after the rain). Donít attempt this alone. We had to pack rocks rescue out of the mud and it took us more than five hours to do the 20 km.

We made it back to Harrismith and back home after the curfew. Sorry but glad to have been successful in our modern wagons.

Thank you to Dave Nixon, Martin Marsay, Dave Bostwick and James Hackett.
