De Wildt 4x4 Trail - 23 March 2019

De Wildt 4x4 TrailOn Saturday the 23rd of March the hordes from Base 4 descended on De Wildt 4x4 Trail about 10 km northeast of Hartbeespoort.

There were 19 of us in 11 vehicles - two Toyota Land Cruisers, four Toyota Hiluxes, four Land Rovers and one Nissan. We even had a convertible Landy!

Paperwork done, the Captain gathered all his sheep and led us onto the trail just after 09h00.  Nine obstacles awaited us, some of them real meanies.  Although rain was forecast, the weather gods smiled upon us and we had a beautiful day. The first obstacle was an axle-twister on a mild uphill.  Not too difficult if you chose your line correctly, but you had to engage diff-lock to get up.  This settled our nerves somewhat.

The dongas provided many challenging obstacles and the group enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The intimidating Gert se Klip did not deter our courageous lady driver Naomi and she negotiated it successfully. Kit made a spectacular splash at the waterhole which cost him a bit of wheel arch plastic.  But then, cowboys donít cry!

We were even treated to some game and ended a most enjoyable day in the lapa with a braai and some liquid refreshments.

Thanks to the Club for organising the day and to Peter for getting everybody through unscathed Ė well almost!
