Okavango Delta and Botswana PansExtended Outing
This trip starts at Kwanokeng just across the Botswana border on the Friday night, 7 July. We will meet and greet at this great stop-over at Martin's Drift, ready for what lies ahead. After a lazy start to the day we head off to Gweta Lodge. The trip is not a long complicated day but arriving early allows time to enjoy this great stop-over. Pool and bar services are available as well as chalets if so required.
The next morning we head for the Delta. We will be camping at Dijane Camp which is located at the tip of the Delta and provides a wide range of game and wildlife only eight kilometres from the Khwai community. The camp site is on a river and boasts flush toilets and bucket showers at all camp sites. Camping here is very wild and lions and hyenas in camp are not uncommon.
We will enjoy the Delta for three nights exploring all the river crossings and game paths for the three days before heading through to Chobe National Park and Kasane.
This gem of Botswana has several activities including booze cruises, game drives and exploring this iconic town on the most northern point of Botswana.
Exciting times lie ahead as we set up camp at Elephant Sands that following afternoon and enjoy a swim in the swimming pool or just enjoy the sunset watching 200-plus elephants coming to drink right at the deck.
We all enjoy a supper together on the deck before retiring that evening listening to all the ellies around the camp site.
After a hearty breakfast once again on the deck the next morning we set off for the Makgadikgadi Pans where we spend a night at the lonesome Kukonje Island. Here we cross the pans to get to the island but no facilities are present. This is totally unspoilt wilderness where the silence is deafening.
We will have a one night stop here before heading for Kwanokeng en route home or heading straight home after our greetings.
