Open Days at Base 4

On a monthly basis, the Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa has an Open Day at its property at Base 4. We alternate between formal and informal open days. On formal days we will have guest speakers, the caterer will be available for meals and other interesting things will be happening at Base 4. On informal open days the bar will be open and everyone is still welcome to come to the club to relax and enjoy the facilities, however we will not have a set program and the caterer will also not be on site.

Each formal Open Day has a programme of events of interest to members, and these are also great opportunities for non-members to come along and see what the club is all about. A wide range of topics is presented by specialists in their field, and every one relates to the 44 or outdoor experience.

Please feel free to invite friends or prospective members to Base 4. Remember the new membership incentive use the open day to get them to join up!

Vibe Catering will be serving breakfast and lunch so bring your appetite.

The FWDCSA is proud and honoured to announce that well-known Speaker, Author and Conservationist Jonathan Leeming will be our guest speaker this open day from 11am. Well known for his unique style, enthusiasm and energetic personality. Jonathan's presentations and lectures have been described by many as insightful, passionate and inspirational. Jonathan has written 9 books including the highly acclaimed books, Scorpions of Southern Africa, and a First Aid Guide to Spider Bites and Scorpion Stings, have been described as milestones in venomous animal conservation. Jonathan's mission in life is to work towards a better understanding and tolerance of these misunderstood creatures through surveys, conservation projects and environmental education. Since the publication of his first book, Jonathan has worked in 11 countries and with people of many different cultures, beliefs and backgrounds - unravelling the barriers in our values and beliefs that steal the joy and inspiration that the world has to offer. How the mere image of a spider, scorpion or snake reveals a deeply entrenched phobia that defines our culture, creating fear and developing a disconnection from the natural world. Having Jonathan come to speak at Base 4 will surely be one of the highlights of the year and should not be missed.

To round off the day the 4x4 track will be open from 2pm for those with extra energy to burn. We are expecting typical warm and sunny highveld winter weather so bring along the family and friends and enjoy a day out at Base 4.
