Tour Details
Khutse Game Reserve has always been one of my favourite places to visit. The sheer tranquillity of the magnificent Kalahari makes this special place a great bush breakaway in Botswana. The 2,500 square kilometre Khutse Game Reserve was opened in 1971, on Bakwena tribal land. The extensive mineralised pan system within Khutse provides an important habitat for wildlife attracting herbivores to graze on the grasses of the pans, drink the mineralised water during the rainy season and to lick salt during the dry season. These herbivores in turn attract predators, such as lion, cheetah, wild dogs and leopard. Boreholes have been established at certain points within the reserve in order to encourage wildlife to stay within the area throughout the year. Whilst the visitor to Khutse should not expect to see or meet up with large concentrations of game, giraffe, gemsbok, red hartebeest, eland, kudu, wildebeest, springbok, steenbok, grey duiker, lion, leopard, cheetah, brown hyena, black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox and wild dog can be seen within Khutse, as well as many other smaller mammals. In the past few years elephants have also moved into the reserve having travelled from the Makagadigadi GR. A wide range of birdlife from ostrich and kori bustard down to the LBJs (little brown jobs) will keep bird enthusiasts well occupied. Sightings of large raptors including Bateleur eagles and vultures are common.

There are no fences and encounters with animals including lion in the camp are possible. We will be camping at Mahurushele Pan, situated halfway between two waterholes, so it's an ideal place from which to explore. Campsites have bucket showers and long drops. This trip is suitable for 'soft-roaders', caravans and trailers. A maximum of seven vehicles will be accommodated so book your space ASAP to avoid disappointment. Further information and a list of what to bring will be supplied once your booking has been confirmed.
