Weekend Outing to Serendipity
16-18 February 2018

The first weekend trail of the New Year is the Serendipity Eco Trail in the Waterberg.

Only 220km from Johannesburg near Modimolle (Nylstroom) this is a real bushveld trail experience. The camp site and other accommodation, set under trees in the Tierkloof valley, are truly rustic. There are kitchen facilities with fridge and gas stoves, washing-up basins, braai areas and electrical points between the camp spots. Toilets are rustic, but very clean. Hot water via Speed Heat shower heads ensures that you will not run out of warm water. Johann (the owner) is very serious about keeping these facilities clean and his staff is there twice a day to ensure they are clean as well as emptying dustbins and fireplaces of ash. The camp site is filled with bird life and you could encounter game walking in to check on your behavior.

There are two trails stretching over an unusual combination of mountains, valleys, streams and savannah sand veld to include all types of driving situations offering something for all levels of experience. The day trail of some 20km is an ideal family adventure trail and will not damage vehicles or egos. There are stops for swimming in crystal clear rock pools, a dam to play in and some of the best bushveld around. Game species include wildebeest, zebra, impala, giraffe, kudu and many more. The shorter trail is more difficult and challenging for the more experienced driver and will be done on Sunday morning.

If you do not wish to camp there are many other accommodation facilities available. There is a choice of rustic chalets spread over a large area to ensure privacy. The chalets require you to bring your own bedding and towels and in some cases cutlery. Booking and payments of chalets must be done with the venue directly. The descriptions of the different chalets can be found on their web site www.serendipitytrails.co.za Bookings for these must be done through Cornelia on 014 743-3540, 082 553 3266 or info@serendipitytrails.co.za - please tell them you are with the FWDCSA

Directions to the venue will be supplied. The idea is to meet on Friday afternoon, do the day trail on Saturday and the shorter trail on Sunday morning, departing at your leisure.

This is really a great trail for both novice and experienced off-roaders. The maximum number of vehicles on the outing is 20. Please complete the booking form and return with payment of R300.00. Camping fees will be collected and paid at the venue. For any further information please email me on schaferkt@gmail.com
