Base 4 - Home of the Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa - Gauteng Branch

Base 4 - The home of the Four Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa (Gauteng Branch)The second Sunday of every month is what we call 'Open Day' when the club facilities at Base 4 are open to all - members and non-members. Base 4 is situated 800m off the R511 in Doornrantjes near Hennops River.

Open Days are fun filled, informative and interactive. Members, prospective members and guests get together to listen to specialist speakers, participate in games, drives and shopping while making new friends. There is always something spectacular on offer for the ladies, the hardy 4x4 man and our precious children. Breakfast is served from 09h00 or stay and enjoy an ice cold beverage. Drive out for the day or stay over and camp for the weekend. Bring your meal and salads and braai around the supplied braai fires and mingle with other members. Enjoy the fresh outdoors and the 4x4 lifestyle.

Pictures of Base 4

The Base 4 property, which is fully owned by the club, is a 14 ha area situated 800m off the R511 in Doornrantjes near Hennops. (Click here to see map

It is a quiet, tranquil place where you as a member can camp and relax or just spend the day, have a braai, test your vehicle and meet fellow members with the same interests. There is a lapa area with braai and picnic facilities, a play area for the children and rustic but full ablutions with hot and cold water. The grassed camping area is well maintained and protected by many trees offering shade in the heat of the day.

The clubhouse, situated on the grounds, is ideal for private functions with full modern ablutions, a hall, bar and conference room. The swimming pool is also a great attraction for the children and also provides a place for the adults to cool off or just laze around.

There are a number of off-road obstacles for you to drive and test your skills. (We recommend that you complete our driver training course before attempting the more serious obstacles. See the Driver Training section.) The lapa, clubhouse and/or grounds can be hired for private or business functions when available and at a fee - see below. For bookings and more information you may contact the club office at fwdcsa@icon.co.za

Members' access to Base 4

Access to Base 4 for club members will be controlled by making a key available to each paid up member. Members who have paid their subs may order a key at the cost of R100. This key will be replaced with a different one each year. Access control to Base 4 has become imperative because thrill seekers have entered our property, used the track and damaged it. Base 4 being in a conservation area, this behaviour and abuse is not acceptable. We want to keep the track and camping grounds in excellent condition for members who want to make use of Base 4 as their home away from home.
